Nearly dozens of cards, they say, have sold for over $1 million since 2020, and new records are being set every day. <h2>1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #53</h2>

This classic card, featuring Babe Ruth swinging a baseball bat, sold for $4.2 million in 2021. The card itself is almost 90 years old and is part of a very small handful of cards graded as a 9 by the Professional Sports Authenticator. Babe Ruth, known as “The Bambino” and “The Sultan of Swat,” was an American baseball player, who played primarily for the New York Yankees. He had a record breaking 714 career home runs and he is an enduring icon in sports history. Sotheby’s placed it in the “pantheon” of sports cards.

<h2>1952 Topps Mickey Mantle #311</h2>

These cards were once dumped by the case into the Atlantic Ocean due to overproduction and lack of demand. In the 1960s, Topps had far too many unsold 1952 baseball cards and so, to clear warehouse space, Sy Berger, a Topps executive, made the call to dispose of the cards. As a result, these cards are now very valuable as the disposal increased their scarcity. One of these cards, sold by Sotheby’s, eclipsed $4 million, indicating its value to collectors.

<h2>1952 Topps Mickey Mantle #311</h2>

Here we have another Mickey Mantle card. Mickey Mantle, otherwise known as “The Mick,” was an American baseball player for the New York Yankees. He was known for his powerful hitting and his speed, and he won three MVP awards and seven World Series titles. He is a beloved figure in baseball, and this is reflected in the immense popularity of his cards. This card is one of the few PSA 9 cards in the world and, according to Sotheby’s, it sold for $5.2 million to Billionaire Boys Club actor Rob Gough and set a world record.

<h2>1909-11 T206 Honus Wagner</h2>

Sotheby’s report that this card is consistently at the top of sports card sales leader boards. This particular card sold for $6.6 million in 2021 and, at the time, this sale set a record for the highest price achieved for a sports card. Honus Wagner was known as “The Flying Dutchman” and he played for the Pittsburgh Pirates in a career spanning from 1897 to 1917. He won eight batting titles and is considered to be one of the greatest baseball players of all time.

<h2>1914 Baltimore News Babe Ruth Rookie</h2>

At the beginning of his career, Babe Ruth spent several months in the minor leagues, playing for the Baltimore Orioles in his hometown. This period of his career is captured in this card, which sold for $7.2 million in 2023. Sotheby’s writes that Ruth was signed at the age of 19, straight out of high school, by the owner and manager of the Orioles. After playing for this side, he moved to the major leagues with the Red Sox. The sale price of this particular card reflects his enduring impact on the sport.

Here we have a reappearance of Honus Wagner, whose cards, according to Sotheby’s, are among some of the most sought after in the world. They report that there is such fierce competition for Wagner cards that collectors will even pay over $400,000 for damaged and torn cards. This second listing, per Sotheby’s, is exceptionally rare and sold in 2022 for $7.25 million, a record breaking sale.

Here again, this Mickey Mantle card became the most valuable piece of sports memorabilia ever when it sold in 2022 for $12.6 million. According to Sotheby’s, this particular card is “The Finest Known Example” of the SGC’s 9.5 grade. This is an incredibly high-quality card and that is reflected in its market value. There are very few mint condition Mickey Mantle cards, and this has driven up the enthusiasm for those that are in circulation. This unbelievable sale represents a huge shift in the value of the card since its early years, when it was disposed of due to lack of demand and excessive quantities of stock.

This trainer amplifies the original Off-White design with additions from Chrome Hearts, including text printed on the trainer itself and the hardware noted above. A diamond, explains the experts at Sotheby’s, is the hardest natural substance on earth. Even so, it still needs regular care to keep it looking the best it can. When you’re out and about living your life the diamond and its fittings can end up coated in a layer of dirt and this can dull its shine. A diamond’s sparkle comes from light shining in through the top and refracting off the bottom of the diamond to one side or the other. Think of how many times you might have moisturised your hands while wearing your ring, how many hands you might have shaken, and how many little everyday tasks you’ve done that have built up on your diamond over time.

Remember, when you are cleaning your ring at home there are certain products you simply must avoid: bleach, chlorine, acetone, and toothpaste. Basically, you want to avoid anything abrasive that might damage the metals in your ring. Try also to use soft brushes rather than anything hard bristled as you do not want to scratch or abrade your ring. Try also to prevent your ring getting too dirty. Remember, you should take off diamond rings before taking a shower as regular soap can cause a layer of film to build up on the jewellery and dull its shine. Try soaking your ring in a supermarket bought cleaning solution while you’re in the shower. Remember too, when you can, to take diamond jewellery off while applying creams to your skin as these too can build up over time. The experts at Sotheby’s explain that this standard household product is actually the quickest way to clean your priceless ring. They advise taking the ring away from the sink drain (you wouldn’t want to drop it!) and swishing it in lukewarm soapy water for a minute or so. While the ring is still wet you should use a soft toothbrush to gently clean underneath the diamond and in the setting. Rinse off with warm water and you are good to go.

Although this trick might be known as an old wives tale it really does work. Fill a shot glass with vodka and place the ring inside (again, you’re going to want to do this somewhere safe) and leave the ring to soak for a number of hours. The ethanol in the alcohol is a natural solvent that will dissolve any dirt that might have fixed itself to your ring. Gently wipe the ring down and rinse and you’ll be amazed at how clean it looks.

The basic nature of baking soda makes it the perfect substance for cleaning jewellery. The experts at Sotheby’s say that its chemical properties are ideal for cleaning hard substances like diamonds and it is also fantastic for cleaning silver and gold jewellery. Mix a little baking soda with some water to form a paste and use a toothbrush to apply it to the ring and scrub gently. Once you have finished (and it is shining brilliantly), rinse the ring under some warm water.

Before you get going with this tip you should note that you must not use bleach-based products on your diamonds. But Windex, according to Sotheby's, is just fine. They suggest taking your diamond ring and soaking it in the cleaning product overnight. Once it has soaked and is cleaned to your liking just rinse it off and it is ready to wear.

These are all simple ways to clean your diamond ring at home, however those at Sotheby’s do recommend taking your ring to your jeweller once every six months so that the jeweller can check the prongs of your ring setting and ensure your diamond is secure. The ‘sky’ bar is utterly vibrant: permanently buzzing with people celebrating all manner of special occasions, while the signature cocktails are notoriously decadent, the Champagne selection extensive, and revellers enjoying the Afternoon Tea experience often continue beyond. Advanced reservations during peak times are recommended, but walk-ins are accepted – if there are still any prized tables available. 
Manchester is the epitome of an upwardly mobile and modern British city, with a bar scene to match: eclectic, adventurous, cool, raucous, sophisticated, intimate, the list goes on. In fact, with so much choice it can be anything you want it to be. If it’s elegant and intimate dinner drinks with a small group of friends, no problem. Earl’s Court in West London’s Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea has a fascinating history. This busy inner-city district gained its name from the Earl of Warwick, the local lord at the time. It’s hard to imagine now, but the area was once farmland. It wasn’t until the 19th century, and developments like the introduction of the Metropolitan District Railway, that urbanisation came to the area. 
The opening of the Earl’s Court Exhibition Grounds in 1887 brought more people to the area as it hosted various events. Earl’s Court was also an event hub in the 20th century as the Earl’s Court Exhibition Centre opened in 1937. This became a noted venue for exhibitions, events, and concerts from major bands and artists, including David Bowie, Oasis, and Michael Jackson. Sadly, the venue was demolished in 2014.

<h2>Kensington Gardens</h2> 
There are few better places to escape London’s busy streets than the beautiful Kensington Gardens. This 265-acre space is one of eight royal parks in London and was originally part of the private grounds of Kensington Palace. Today, it is free to enter and open to all. Kensington Gardens has an interesting past and there are numerous statues, monuments and fountains to admire as you explore. Don’t miss the gorgeous Italian Gardens on the north side of the park, near Lancaster Gate. This beautiful ornamental water garden was created in the 1860s and is thought to have been a gift to Queen Victoria from her husband Albert. For many, Kensington Gardens brings to mind memories of Princess Diana who lived at Kensington Palace. The Diana Memorial Playground, next to her former home, is an incredible place for children to play. It features a wooden pirate ship at its centre, a sensory trail, and plenty of seating for adults. 
Art lovers will feel right at home here too, as Kensington Gardens has two famous contemporary art galleries – Serpentine Gallery North and South. Of course, the gardens are also a wonderful place to walk, run, meet friends, picnic, or simply relax.

<h2>Kensington Palace</h2> 
British royals have been living at Kensington Palace, set in Kensington Gardens, for more than 300 years. Princess Diana and King Charles lived in apartment 9 and raised William and Harry there. The palace is still used by the royal family, but many areas are open for visitors to explore, giving you the chance to follow in the footsteps of royalty. 
The admission fee includes access to the grand King’s State Apartments, the Jewel Room featuring gems commissioned for Queen Victoria, the Queen’s State Apartments, the King’s Gallery, and more. <h2>Brompton Cemetery</h2> 
Grade II-listed Brompton Cemetery was established in 1840 and is one of the UK’s oldest garden cemeteries. It’s considered one of London’s Magnificent Seven cemeteries, covers more than 39 acres, and is the resting place of more than 200,000 people. Among them are many notable people, including explorer Richard Francis Burton, pioneering doctor John Snow, and suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst. Many of the memorials here are grand, and this is a serene place to wander with its paths lined with lime trees. Brompton is also a haven for wildlife, including butterflies, birds, and bats. At the north end of the cemetery, you’ll find an information centre to help you make the most of your time here. There’s also a café, which is the perfect place to take a break and enjoy a hot drink or a bite to eat in relaxing surroundings.

Many come simply to admire the honey-coloured cottages and take a stroll across its iconic low stone bridges to explore pubs, cafes, gift shops, and antiques shops on either side of the River Windrush that runs through its centre. 
Car enthusiasts and history buffs alike will feel right at home at the Cotswold Motoring Museum in the heart of the village. The museum has an impressive collection of vintage cars, motorcycles, and motoring memorabilia. Visitors can also enjoy Birdland Park and Gardens, home to more than 500 birds, including penguins, parrots, and flamingos, and is set in nine acres of gardens and woodland. <h2>Castle Combe</h2> 
Don’t be surprised if Castle Combe, Wiltshire feels familiar even on your first visit. This beautiful village, located just 12 miles from the historic city of Bath, is one of the most photographed places in the Cotswolds. Its picture-perfect qualities are so impressive that it has also been used as a filming location for multiple TV and film productions. Downton Abbey, War Horse, Doctor Doolittle, and more have taken advantage of its timeless appearance. This is due in no small part to the fact that no new buildings are thought to have been constructed here since the 17th century. 
Despite the fact this is a real, living village, tourists could be mistaken for thinking Castle Combe is a living museum. The village is named after a castle that once stood in the area, but was sadly demolished centuries ago. Still, there is plenty for visitors and locals alike to enjoy in what is often called the ‘prettiest village in England’. The luxurious 14th-century The Manor House hotel has Michelin-star dining and is set in 365 acres of secluded parklands. The architectural gem that is the 13th century St Andrew’s Church has what is thought to be the oldest clock in the country.

There are historical cities, like Leeds, Sheffield, Bradford, and the county town of York, offering a mix of attractions and superb cultural scenes. All are worth considering if you’re seeking an urban adventure.

For many people who live here, this ease of access to nature is one of the highlights. The Peak District, the Yorkshire Dales, and the North York Moors all offer spectacular scenery and a range of attractions and charming towns and villages. The only challenge for those planning a visit or thinking about sampling country living for themselves is knowing where to start. 
In this guide, we’ve pulled together some of Yorkshire’s most interesting and characterful places, all with breathtaking countryside on their doorsteps.&nbsp; Read on to discover what they are.

<h2>Haworth</h2> 
The historic (and charming) village of Haworth, around 10 miles from Bradford in the Pennine hills of West Yorkshire, is best known as the home of the Brontë sisters. For literary lovers, Haworth is a dream destination, and many will relish the opportunity to explore ‘Brontë Country’ and the places that inspired famous novels such as Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, and The Tenant of Wildfell. Today Haworth is a desirable place to live and visit, with its cute cafes, pubs, independent stores, hotels, and stunning countryside surrounding it. But in the era of the Brontë sisters, Haworth was an extremely unsanitary and hazardous place to live. Life expectancy was short, and around 41% of residents died before their sixth birthday. The Brontë Parsonage Museum gives a fascinating insight into the sisters, their family, and the local area. 
You can even arrive in Haworth by steam train. The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway is a five-mile long heritage railway that connects Keighley to Oxenhope.

<h2>Skipton</h2> 
Skipton is one of North Yorkshire’s most popular destinations. Spend some time here and it’s easy to understand why. The town has a variety of shops, pubs, restaurants, and cafes, a popular market that runs four days a week, and a range of cultural attractions. Be sure to drop in and check the schedules for Craven Arts, Skipton Town Hall, Mill Bridge Gallery, Plaza Cinema, Skipton Little Theatre, and Mart Theatre. If you love history, Skipton has plenty of it. The well-preserved mediaeval castle, built in 1090, is the highlight and is open to visitors seven days a week. 
Skipton Castle Woods is another must-see. This ancient woodland habitat is located just a stone’s throw from the busy high street, alongside the castle ramparts, and with its variety of walking trails and seasonal events is a wonderful place for visitors of all ages. Skipton is a great base for walkers and cyclists, with a huge selection of options just a short distance from the town. Skipton is also in easy reach of both the unmissable Bolton Abbey and Malham Cove.

<h2>Hebden Bridge</h2> 
The picturesque market town of Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire is famed for its artistic, creative identity. This is evident as you walk its streets and browse its galleries, independent stores, and cafes. 
This town, eight miles west of Halifax, is now as much known for its vibrant community as it is for its industrial past. Hebden saw an influx of musicians, writers, artists, and other creatives in the 1970s and 1980s, and its popularity has continued to grow in the years since. This is thanks in part due to the town’s rail links to Leeds, Bradford and Manchester and its proximity to stunning countryside. The Rochdale Canal also connects the town with Manchester and Sowerby Bridge, and its valley location made it a key location for wool production during the Industrial Revolution. The old mills and canals, which powered production and distribution and saw Hebden nicknamed ‘trouser town’, now form part of an interesting heritage trail walk along the canal. Local beauty spot Hardcastle Crags is the ideal spot for a walk and boasts the impressive 19th-century Gibson Mill at its centre. This wooded valley is spread across more than 400 acres and has waterfalls, flowing streams, and many footpaths.

<h2>Knaresborough</h2> 
The North Yorkshire spa town of Knaresborough was once home to medieval kings and is perfectly positioned on the cliffs alongside the River Nidd. 
A Norman castle, originally built in 1100 and then rebuilt between 1301 and 1307, is open to the public. It offers visitors an insight into the town’s history, as well as amazing views of the river and the town’s famously picture-perfect Nidd Gorge viaduct. 
The town is also home to Mother Shipton’s Cave, which is thought to be the UK’s oldest tourist attraction. This has been operated since 1630 and, legend has it, was the birthplace of the famous prophetess. Set among ancient woodland and with a museum, children’s play area, picnic spots, and a regular selection of events, the site offers something for visitors of all ages.&nbsp; 
The River Nidd Waterside Walk is a relaxing stroll with scenic views and some cute cafes, perfect for when you’re ready to stop for a well-earned ice cream or coffee. There are plenty of opportunities to get out and enjoy the countryside too. The Knaresborough Round Walk passes through several pretty villages around the town, while the Beryl Burton Cycleway takes in the viaduct and offers traffic-free cycling to the nearby towns of Harrogate and Ripley.
