Only 20 units of the GT1 Strassenversion were built, making it one of the rarest Porsche models in the world. Given that it was a street legal version, its power and speed were tamed for commercial viability. These silver-coloured gems were fitted with a 996-inspired, water-cooled, twin-turbocharged engine, equipping the car with 600 HP. Notwithstanding it being a street version, the GT1 Strassenversion still boasted remarkable dexterity, as it could accelerate from 0 to 50 km/hr in 2.1 seconds.&nbsp; 
This limited edition series is worth a king’s ransom but assures an incredible return on investment both monetarily and as a status symbol. The Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 IROC RSR was built specifically for Roger Penscke’s 1973 International Race of Champions, as the eminent Porsche 917 was declared non-compliant with the competition’s new rules. With only 15 units manufactured, it is one of the most exclusive 911 models. 
The car was outfitted with a three-litre, two-cylinder SOHC engine that churned out 330 HP. Compared to the older 917, the Carrera 3.0 IROC RSR was designed with a wider front spoiler and larger wheel arches. It also debuted with Porsche’s iconic rear wings – now a staple, the then cutting-edge engineering move was employed to ensure greater downforce. 
The Carrera 3.0 IROC RSRs also gained notoriety for their harlequin colour palettes. With bright greens, oranges, and reds, it was certainly a vogueish sports car in the 1970s.&nbsp;

Quite unlike traditional 911s, the GT1 Road Car was designed with the front end of a 993 and a rear end of a 962 Group C prototype. With only a handful of these units made, the Porsche 911 GT1 Road Car is hard to come by. One unit went for over $2.2 million at a Monaco RM Sotheby's auction in 2016.

Until the middle of the 17th Century, wine was still being drawn from a wooden cask and served from a pot jug. Then came the wine bottle revolution after it was discovered that cork could act as a seal in a container, allowing the wine to age without spoiling, and allowing it to be stored without being spilled.

It is Sir Kenelm Digby, a tumultuous adventurer, privateer, and alchemist, who is widely regarded as “the father of the modern bottle.” Initially, the bottles had thick bottoms and short necks, but as time went on, the neck grew and lengthened while the bottom slimmed. By the 1820s, they resembled the current wine bottles that we are familiar with. In 1821, Rickets of Bristol filed a patent for a machine that produced identically sized bottles in a design that we recognize today. 
In terms of safe storage and transportation, whilst maintaining the quality of the wine inside, it’s clear that the glass bottle is still the best option. While today’s bottles come in various styles, basic bottles accommodate 750ml of wine. Slightly larger and smaller bottles, made in accordance with regional customs, are still available, but their use has become increasingly rare. 
The size of the wine bottles always matters during the production process. It should be noted that while a little oxygen is beneficial to the ageing process as well as the taste of wine, too much oxidation could cause deterioration. The headspace of air between the wine and the bottom of the cork is referred to as ouillage in French. Because corks do not establish a completely airtight barrier, some liquid is lost through evaporation as the wine ages. 
Hence, the risk for wine to be exposed to dangerous levels of oxidation grows with the rise of ouillage. This is the reason why some experts argue that magnums (usually twice the size of a typical bottle) are better for storing wine due to their increased capacity. For instance, the amount of liquid in a magnum compared to the ouillage level is twice that of a traditional 750ml bottle. 
There are definite pros and cons of larger bottles: larger bottles tend to let the wine develop a more nuanced flavour and a deeper complexity than a smaller bottle, resisting temperature changes more easily. However, the bigger wine bottles require specialised racking with wider spacing for safer storage. 
Each of the differently sized wine bottles has a distinctive name and it is usually biblically inspired. An interesting diversion away from this is The Winston Churchill, named after the UK’s Prime Minister during the Second World War; the bottle contained around 570ml, which was the volume of champagne that Churchill would drink each and every morning.

<h2>The Standard Bottle, Half Bottle/Demi, Quarter Bottle/Split, Chopin, Jennie, Magnum</h2> 
The standard wine bottle holds 750ml and remains the most popular size. The Half Bottle – called the Demi – holds375 ml. The Quarter Bottle – the smallest available – is known as a Piccolo or Split bottle, and it holds half of that again – 187ml – which is the equivalent to a generous glass of wine. When we start going in the other direction in terms of size, a Chopine is a third of a bottle – 250ml (one and a half glasses) while a Jennie is double the size of that at 500 ml (three glasses). The more familiar Magnum is the size of two standard wine bottles, holding 1.5 litres of wine. With a Magnum size bottle, the wine is most commonly Champagne.

<h2>Jeroboam, Rehoboam, McKenzie, Methuselah, Salmanazar</h2> 
And the sizes go up but this is just the start! A jeroboam – a Double Magnum – holds 3litres of wine, the equivalent of 4 standard bottles. A Bordeaux Jeroboam holds 5 litres.Up from that, a Rehoboam holds 4.5 litres (six bottles), the rarer McKenzie holds 5 litres (seven bottles), a Methuselah – also known as an Imperial bottle - holds 6 litres (eight bottles), and a Salmanzar bottle holds 9 litres (12 standard bottles).

<h2>Balthazar, Nebuchadnezzar, Melchior, Solomon</h2> 
Just over halfway on the bottle scale, a Balthazar can hold up to 12 litres of wine (16 bottles) and a Nebuchanezzar holds an amazing 15 litres (20 bottles) and weighs around 83 pounds . A Melchior bottle holds 18 litres of wine (24 bottles) and the gigantic Solomon bottle holds 20 litres of wine, the equivalent of 26 standard bottles.&nbsp;

<h2>Balthazar, Nebuchadnezzar, Melchior, Solomon</h2> 
Towards the absolute top end of the bottle scale is the Sovereign, holding a mind-blowing 25 litres of wine (33.3 standard bottles). But bigger than that, the Primat or The Goliath bottle holds 27 litres (36 bottles) and weighs an astounding 143 pounds. Nearly topping the lot – but not quite - is the Melchizedek, also known as the Midas, holding an absolutely unbelievable 30 litres, the equivalent of 40 standard bottles. It stands at 4 feet tall and serves 240 glasses of wine. These are obviously very rare, not to mention impractical and expensive. Incredibly, that isn’t the very biggest bottle in existence. The aptly named Maximus takes that accolade containing – wait for it – 130 litres! That is actually the equivalent of 920 glasses. A waiter’s nightmare but truly astonishing.

The bottles that we use most around the world are the Bordeaux bottle with its tall shoulders, straight sides, and deep punt, and the Burgundy bottle, wider than theBordeaux with sloping shoulders. These are recognised as the standard bottle sizes forwine. And whilst larger sized bottles are considered the perfect accompaniment for a special occasion, the standard-sized wine bottle still rules. And in general terms, glass wine bottles are unlikely to be replaced by anything else anytime soon. The bottle connects us to something more. <h2>He Thought He Was The Reincarnation Of His Brother</h2> 
Dali’s brother, also named Salvador, had died just nine months before the artist was born. His belief about reincarnation came about when his parents took him to the grave, aged five, and told him that is what had happened. It is something he seemingly continued to believe through his life. His late brother even had an impact on his later work, including the 1963 painting Portrait of My Dead Brother.

<h2>His Work Was Influenced By Sigmund Freud</h2> 
Dali was a big fan of psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud, known for his theories on sexual repression. The artist had read The Interpretation of Dreams when he was an art student in Madrid in the 1920s and felt inspired. The pair eventually met, when in 1938 Freud arrived at Primrose Hill in London after fleeing Vienna when the Nazis took over. The meeting was arranged by the author Stefan Zweig and patron Edward James. The latter owned Dali’s painting The Metamorphosis of Narcissus, and the artist took this along to the meeting. Dali spent much of the meeting sketching Freud with a snail-like skull. This was a clear example of the theme he continued to explore in his works, perhaps most notably the striking Women Forming a Skull in 1951.

<h2>His Wife Had A Major Influence On His Life Too</h2> 
Dali married Elena Ivanovna Diakonova, aka Gala, in a civil ceremony in 1934. Gala was 10 years older than Dali and she played a big part in life and career, becoming his manager, as well as serving as an artistic muse. They first met when Dali was 25. At the time, Gala was still married to Dali’s friend – the Surrealist poet Éluard. She was also said to be having a long affair with Max Ernst. Soon after meeting Dali, they began an affair. Eventually Gala and Éluard would divorce. Dali and Gala had an open marriage and Gala is said to have had a number of affairs, which Dali was said to encourage. A<a href="https://www.sothebys.com/en/articles/21-facts-about-salvador-dali"> Sotheby’s article</a> notes that she was in a romantic relationship with 22-year old actor Jeff Fenholt at the time of her death, aged 87.

<h2>His Moustache Was Famous</h2> 
Dali was the owner of one of the world’s most famous moustaches, which became an artistic statement in its own right. In an interview with the BBC in 1955, he was asked about his facial hair and noted how French novelist Marcel Proust used the same wax but in a different way. “He used this wax but he used it in another manner or another mode in one depressing… way. A little depressing and melancholic. My moustache contrarily is very gay, very pointed, very aggressive,” he was quoted as saying. Dali’s moustache became increasingly eye-catching&nbsp; and upturned as the years went by. Even since his death, it has remained a key part of his brand, featuring on merchandise and even being used on a Delta Air Lines plane.

<h2>He Was Expelled For His Political Views</h2> 
The Surrealist group, led by Andre Breton, is the movement Dali is most associated with. However, many in the group were communists and were not pleased about his growing interest in Adolf Hitler and fascism. The group tried unsuccessfully to have him expelled for his views as early as 1934, but it was the creation of the piece The Enigma of Hitler that eventually led to his exclusion in 1939. Dali left Europe for the United States but continued to share his beliefs, even showing support for the Spanish dictator Franco.

The impressive Capital Hill Residence in Moscow is the only private residential project from the late world-renowned Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid. This four-level property, built in 2011, is located on a north-facing hillside in the Barvikha Forest and is owned by Russian billionaire Vladislav Doronin. There are two sections to the property – one is blended into the hillside and the second is suspended over the forest. As you can imagine, it offers some incredible views. 
The house is constructed from pre-cast and in-situ concrete, glass and steel. The upper levels of the house contain the entrance lobby, bedrooms, a study/library, and a lounge with an external terrace. The lower levels feature living and dining spaces, a kitchen, an entertainment space, an indoor swimming room, a sauna, a massage and fitness space, baths, and parking.

<h2>High Desert House, California, US</h2> 
High Desert House is a remarkable home located in an arid and otherworldly landscape on the edge of California’s Joshua Tree National Park. The 10-acre plot sits within a cluster of huge boulders. The owners approached architect Kendrick Bangs Kellogg with the project and his design makes remarkable use of a unique plot. The property uses 26 freestanding, curved concrete columns that blend into the natural environment, with every column embedded seven feet into the ground to give stability. 
The designer spent five years working on the house until it was completed in 1993. The interiors are also a sight to behold, with an open plan layout and large, arched concrete pillars throughout. Designer John Vugrin spent 14 years creating the perfect décor and bespoke luxury furniture for the space to ensure it looked just right.

The Wave House in Mikkeli, Finland is a remarkable futuristic lakeside residence. The design was originally created for a similar site in Russia. That project never happened, but the design was so eye-catching that it eventually found its perfect match on a green slope among the trees in the Finnish countryside 
The property’s pine wood, curved roof is shaped to resemble waves and is one of the most impressive features, along with its sizable, cantilevered terrace giving an amazing view of the lake and forest. Every part of the property is set up to make the most of its location, with the master bedroom and open-plan living area all offering gorgeous views. As you might expect from a property in this part of the world, there is also a sauna. This one stands out from the crowd by also having a fully glazed wall, offering even more opportunity to admire the view. 
The home was designed by Finnish architect Seppo Mäntylä and uses a combination of pine, steel and glass. This is very much a futuristic vision of what a cabin in the woods could be.

With Britain and much of the world going to war at the end of that decade, the next couple who moved into the property made it a meeting place for some of the most significant figures in British Intelligence. Renowned spy Tomas Harris called Garden Lodge home when he wasn’t running secret schemes involving double agents to fool enemy intelligence operatives. Sotheby’s also has a unique connection to this period of Garden Lodge's history.&nbsp; 
Peter Wilson, former chairman of Sotheby’s auction house and also a member of British Intelligence during the Second World War, was a frequent guest at Garden Lodge of Mr Harris. Mr Wilson’s association with British Intelligence brought him into contact with celebrated James Bond author Ian Fleming. The short story “The Property of a Lady”, mentions Mr Wilson by name, and Sotheby’s auction house features as a location and plot point in both the novel and its film adaptation, Octopussy (1983).

In 1980, the house entered a new phase in its history when it was purchased by Freddie Mercury, the charismatic frontman of the prominent British rock band, Queen. At the time, Mercury sought a private retreat away from the constant attention of fame. Garden Lodge provided the perfect blend of luxury and seclusion. He paid £500,000 for the property in cash, which would equivocate to more than £2,000,000 today!

While Garden Lodge wasn’t Queen’s official recording studio, the house played a significant role in Mercury's creative process. After Freddie Mercury’s tragic passing in 1991, Garden Lodge was bequeathed to Mary Austin, a lifelong friend and confidante to whom Mercury was so attached that he brought her a home close to Garden Lodge so they might always be close. Over the years, Austin made subtle changes to the interior of the house. 
While she preserved many of Mercury’s furnishings and the overall aesthetic of the home, Austin opted for a quieter, more understated style. The opulent furnishings remained, but some of the more dramatic elements of the décor were toned down. The various collected items and memorabilia would leave behind a legacy of its own.
