The more recent luxury asset status of Irish whiskey is demonstrated superbly in this example. Jay Bradley conceived the idea of a showcase bottle with added theatrics to show how his brand could compete with the <a href="https://sothebysrealty.co.uk/the-journal/best-scotch-whiskey-uk/" rel="noopener">high-end Scotch</a> and Cognac, and this was the result.
This is a 30-year old single malt matured in American bourbon casks for an initial period before finishing in a Pedro Ximenez sherry cask. It was released in a strictly limited run of 7 sets that each came with a gold and enamel Celtic Egg from Fabergé, a Fabergé timepiece and a hand-crafted whiskey decanter.
American collector Mike Daley picked one up for £2.8 million in 2024 in a significant, and stunning move for the entire whiskey market.

This particular release was distilled in 1973 and remains one of the oldest Irish Pot Still whiskeys ever bottled.
Reports suggest that only 250 bottles were released to commemorate the 200 year anniversary of the Old Middleton Distillery’s opening in 1825.

It was clear that the Silent Distillery Collection would be a big hit in the secondary market for years to come.

This is the 45 year old drop that started it all for the collection from Cork. Less than 50 bottles had been released at launch in 2020 and this hammer price in 2022 charts the trajectory of its value.
Stories tell of the original Middleton site housing the largest pot still ever constructed with capacity for 31,000 gallons. This illustrates the industrial scale of Irish Whiskey in the 19th&nbsp;century and also what was lost forever when the site moved and production stopped there. All of which adds a wonderful provenance and value to this collection.

Each bottle that comes from the collection is augmented with bespoke work by the Irish designer John Galvin. They are presented in a cabinet that reflects the architecture of 19th&nbsp;century distilleries with elements of the cooperage tradition involved in oak cask making. These ensure that the whiskey is recognised as a high status collectible asset with a display case to match the prestige.
Chapter Three was the 2022 release that is reported to regularly change hands on the secondary market for around £40,000.
