As the calendar turns to a new year, it brings a new chapter for luxury car collectors with Arizona Car Week. Spanning the greater Phoenix-Scottsdale area, the week beginning on 16th January has in store showcases, events, meetups and marque-led exhibitions across esteemed venues like the Penske Racing Museum and McLaren Scottsdale in a grand celebration of automotive culture. As its conclusion stands the RM Sotheby’s Arizona sale, marking its 28th edition as the flagship event of the week. Once again, automotive enthusiasts and collectors from around the world will converge at the Arizona Baltimore Resort &amp; Spa — the celebrated “Jewel of the Desert” — to witness an elite roster of rare and historically significant vehicles, complemented by the resort’s signature hospitality.

A glistening vision of the future of automotive design drove the creation of the 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster. A worthy successor to the iconic Gullwing, this vehicle faced concerns of the marque trading performance for style. These concerns were quickly dismissed, as the 300 SL seamlessly combined striking design with formidable power, ranking among fastest-accelerating cars of its era and commanding attention whether on the open road or making a red carpet entrance.
This particular chassis was originally ordered in a vivid Fire Engine Red with Crème leather interiors and a beige fabric top, tailored for the US road specifications and completed in December 1957. Notable original features include sealed-beam headlamps, a 3.89:1 rear axle, and a Becker Mexico radio. Much of its early ownership remains obscured, with the earliest records of possession appearing in 1981, when it was acquired by a California-based collector.
At some point before that, the car received a transformation to don its current Silver Metallic finish complemented by red interiors and a matching fabric top — a timeless combination that accentuates the graceful contours and meticulous detailing of the 300 SL’s coachwork.
Acquired by the consignor in 2021, he placed the car in the superior care of the award-winning team at RM Auto Restoration for an extensive rebuild. Completed in 2025, the overhaul included over $100,000 of work on cosmetic refinements, detailing, and the installation of number-matching components such as the engine, chassis, and rear axle, among others.
The vehicle is accompanied by full restoration documentation, a tool roll, and two matching pieces of luggage. This 300 SL Roadster stands as an enduring icon from an era predating the term “supercar,” exemplifying Mercedes’ mastery of engineering excellence and automotive design and becoming a stellar US-spec benchmark from the model’s first year of production.

Chassis CSX 2208 was completed in England in late 1963 before being exported to the United States, where both its engine and chassis received notable upgrades. Its first custodian — an art collector based in Philadelphia — kept the car only briefly before it passed to a second owner. In 1968, it found its way to a young automobile enthusiast, Lee Weinstein, who acquired it as a personal graduation gift. He would go on to cherish and preserve the car for nearly five decades, retaining stewardship until his passing.
In 2015, CSX 2208 got new ownership and underwent a comprehensive restoration by leading marque specialists to elevate it to concours standard. Completed in 2019, the restoration was followed by an additional two-year process wherein the aluminium body was meticulously block-sanded and repainted in Vineyard Green, complemented by newly fitted Saddle upholstery.
Accompanied by Weinstein’s notebook logging decades of maintenance and restorative work, CSX 2208 now stands in a rare factory-correct colour scheme with numbers-matching components. Beyond its celebrated marque and performance specs, the car is distinguished by the extraordinary level of care bestowed upon it by a devoted long-term owner.

When venerated F1 designer Gordon Murray and his team set out to incorporate racing engineering into a road car during the 90s, their goal was to create just that — a supercar for the road that would revolutionise the everyday driving experience. Their masterplans led to the birth of a vehicle that found its place in racing legend as a modified GTR version. Making a spectacular entrance at the 1995 edition of 24 Hours of Le Mans, this modified McLaren immediately stamped its authority on the track, taking first place and contributing to a near-sweep of the top five spots, narrowly missing 2nd place. Under the hood, a naturally aspirated 6,064-cc BMW V12 roared to life in a gold-lined engine bay, while the streamlined three-seat cockpit aided the car in hitting 391 km/h. Its top speed was a thrilling side effect of Murray’s relentless pursuit of performance and innovation.
A mere 64 versions of the road-specific version were built, and Chassis 014 was exclusively commissioned for the Royal Family of Brunei in a breathtaking Titanium Yellow with black leather interiors, only to subsequently be purchased by former McLaren director David Clark and then by a repeat F1 owner from the US. In 2006, a devoted collector acquired Chassis 014 and returned it to McLaren’s headquarters for a comprehensive transformation. The car emerged with a striking Ibis White finish, replacing its original yellow, with the interiors upgraded to LM specification, reflecting the marque’s racing heritage. Notably, it became the final F1 of just eight to receive the coveted High-Downforce Kit. One of Chassis 014’s most remarkable features is Michael Schumacher signing the car in 1996, just two days after the Australian Grand Prix. After its repaint, it came to bear the autograph of Sir Lewis Hamilton — signed during his rookie season — linking the vehicle to one of Formula 1’s greatest icons.
Following its meticulous rebuild, the car spent much of the next decade on roads across the United States, becoming a North American icon. McLaren has observed a standout 2025 season, momentum it is adamant to maintain despite regulatory changes. The MCL40A is poised to be the centrepiece, set to carry the marque’s automotive ambitions into the next year. Engineered to the highest and all necessary specifications, it is propelled by a hybrid unit from Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains, blending cutting-edge technology with McLaren’s racing DNA. While the car’s official unveiling is scheduled for early 2026, one lucky bidder will have the extraordinary opportunity to take ownership ahead of its debut.
To safeguard McLaren’s engineering brilliance and keep it secret in the highly competitive industry, the winning bidder from the December auction will be delivered a non-working show model. The actual car - raced by either Lando Norris or Oscar Piastri during the season - will only be handed over in early 2028.

Among his most ardent admirers was Queen Marie-Antoinette, who owned several of his timepieces for her own personal wear, and spoke of them with the same affection, whether at court or within her trusted inner circle. Her admiration inspired one of Breguet’s greatest masterpieces — watch No. 160, known today simply as the Marie-Antoinette. Conceived to include every known refinement and complication of the era, it became a watch without an equal. As fate would have it, the timepiece was completed only after the Queen’s death — a masterpiece destined never to grace the wrist of its muse. Breguet, who finished watch No. 160 after the French Revolution, kept the piece safe, a silent tribute and a mark of his loyalty to the queen.

Looking to the months ahead, the stage is primed for an exceptional final stretch, with expectations of surpassing <a href="https://sothebysrealty.co.uk/the-journal/momentous-milestones-united-kingdom-sothebys-international-realty-leads-the-charge-in-2024/">2024's £1.2 billion in sales</a>.

Over the same period, 48 properties totalling £16.3 million were let. Whether buying or renting, the trend is clear: the UK property market continues to attract committed capital from serious investors and residents alike.

The first half of 2025 was a challenging period for London's prime property sector. House prices were falling, buyers were adopting a cautious approach, and <a href="https://sothebysrealty.co.uk/the-journal/stamp-duty-changes/" rel="noopener">stamp duty rates</a> had increased. Further compounding these headwinds was the abolition of the generous non-dom tax regime, which had allowed non-domiciled UK residents to remain exempt from taxes on worldwide income and gains. These policy shifts prompted a significant exodus of high-net-worth individuals from the UK.
However, the latter half of H1 and early H2 marked a turning point. As property prices softened 3-4% year-on-year, the months from June through August delivered steady growth in sales activity. A 9% year-on-year jump in transaction volumes during June signalled gathering momentum as Q3 approached.
This momentum is reflected in <a href="https://sothebysrealty.co.uk/the-journal/exceptional-august-performance-a-month-in-retrospective/">United Kingdom Sotheby's International Realty's August performance</a>, which saw 25 deals completed with an average property value of £9.8 million. Much of this demand comes from <a href="https://sothebysrealty.co.uk/the-journal/why-are-wealthy-americans-escaping-to-the-uk/">overseas buyers capitalising on the weaker pound</a> and keeping the market buoyant – driven in no small part by London's enduring appeal, with its cultural cachet, economic significance, and world-class amenities.
Furthermore, neighbourhoods beyond Prime Central London, including <a href="https://sothebysrealty.co.uk/area-guides/south-west-london/" rel="noopener">South-West</a>, North, and East London, are proving exceptionally resilient, with strong sale prices and robust demand reflecting buyers' growing preference for space and lifestyle over traditional PCL prestige.
As such, the market is expected to experience a modest upswing by year-end, with analysts predicting 3% growth in 2026.

London's prime property market has a demonstrable history of shrugging off policy turbulence and political instability that are often perceived as harbingers of its downfall. This resilience, however, surprises few who understand the UK market's track record. For instance, when the government introduced a 5% stamp duty surcharge on properties above £1 million in 2010, pessimists predicted a slump. Instead, sales of million-pound-plus homes surged 54% year-on-year, a stark reminder that Britain's luxury property sector is notoriously difficult to derail and possesses a remarkable capacity to absorb most shockwaves.

Following successful operations in the UK, Dubai, and Saudi Arabia, the Abu Dhabi launch marks a strategic evolution of Azar's regional vision, driven by growing interest among affluent British buyers in Gulf real estate and sustained Middle Eastern demand for Prime Central London property.
