The 10 of the Most Expensive Irish Whiskey

Irish Whiskey is on the rise again. The Emerald Isle had once been a proud global powerhouse in the 18th and 19th centuries with its monastic distillation methods and international network serving the water of life to bars and customers all over the world.

However, the effects of prohibition in America and trade issues posed challenges that lasted decades eventually took their toll. By the end of the 20th century there were only a handful of distilleries and brands left in the country to carry on the tradition and methods that had been ongoing for hundreds of years.

In 2026 the Irish whiskey renaissance is in full swing with dozens of new distilleries arriving to bring a niche edge to the luxury spirits world. As a result, there has been a considerable demand for the most sought after drops of Irish Whiskey, with prices to match.

Here is a collection of ten of the most expensive Irish whiskeys.

1. The Emerald Isle
Craft Irish Whiskey Co.
£2.2 million
2024

The more recent luxury asset status of Irish whiskey is demonstrated superbly in this example. Jay Bradley conceived the idea of a showcase bottle with added theatrics to show how his brand could compete with the high-end Scotch and Cognac, and this was the result.

This is a 30-year old single malt matured in American bourbon casks for an initial period before finishing in a Pedro Ximenez sherry cask. It was released in a strictly limited run of 7 sets that each came with a gold and enamel Celtic Egg from Fabergé, a Fabergé timepiece and a hand-crafted whiskey decanter.

American collector Mike Daley picked one up for £2.8 million in 2024 in a significant, and stunning move for the entire whiskey market.

Middleton Silent Distillery

Whiskeys from The Middleton Silent Distillery Collection dominate the top 10 Irish whiskeys in the world from number 2 to number 7. This influence and impact demonstrates exactly how their storied past and fascinating provenance translates directly into collectability and cost.

2. Middleton Silent Distillery Collection
Chapter Six
Approximately £55,000
2025

The Middleton Silent Distillery Collection occupies a prestigious position in the Irish whiskey market. It draws from the remaining casks produced at the company’s original site and is therefore vanishingly rare. This particular release was distilled in 1973 and remains one of the oldest Irish Pot Still whiskeys ever bottled.

Reports suggest that only 250 bottles were released to commemorate the 200 year anniversary of the Old Middleton Distillery’s opening in 1825.

3. Middleton Silent Distillery Collection
Chapter Five
Approximately £47,000
2024

The Silent Distillery Collection was overseen by Irish Distillers master distiller Kevin O’Gorman who had been at the brand since 2020. Chapter Five was reported to be a run of 99 bottles from the existing casks with growing interest in every successive launch event. It was clear that the Silent Distillery Collection would be a big hit in the secondary market for years to come.

The entire collection was a masterstroke of modern marketing for a traditional company that was celebrating its heritage in an interactive way.

4. Middleton Silent Distillery Collection
Chapter One
Approximately £41,000
2020

This is the 45 year old drop that started it all for the collection from Cork. Less than 50 bottles had been released at launch in 2020 and this hammer price in 2022 charts the trajectory of its value.

Stories tell of the original Middleton site housing the largest pot still ever constructed with capacity for 31,000 gallons. This illustrates the industrial scale of Irish Whiskey in the 19th century and also what was lost forever when the site moved and production stopped there. All of which adds a wonderful provenance and value to this collection.

5. Middleton Silent Distillery Collection
Chapter Three
2022
Approximately £40,000

Each bottle that comes from the collection is augmented with bespoke work by the Irish designer John Galvin. They are presented in a cabinet that reflects the architecture of 19th century distilleries with elements of the cooperage tradition involved in oak cask making. These ensure that the whiskey is recognised as a high status collectible asset with a display case to match the prestige.

Chapter Three was the 2022 release that is reported to regularly change hands on the secondary market for around £40,000.

6. Middleton Silent Distillery Collection
Chapter Two
Approximately £36,000
2021

The Middleton Silent Distillery Collection did several intelligent things for the Irish Whiskey market. Releasing these annual chapters delivered an air of anticipation with growing interest for every launch. It also meant that the previous chapters in circulation were now being coveted in a similar way. The Silent Distillery Collection was creating value at every point.

When one of the 70 bottles arrived at Irish Whiskey Auctions in 2023, this sale confirmed how headlines were certain to be made as the decade progressed.

7. Middleton Silent Distillery Collection
Chapter Four
2023
Approximately £34,000

This chapter was bottled with 48 years of ageing on release in 2023. It was clear that the Silent Distillery Collection had ignited something in collectors that would be looking to complete the full set over the six-year schedule.

Such incredible provenance, stories and methods were all being employed to raise the profile of Irish whiskey in a compelling and authoritative way. The Marrying Casks of ex-bourbon and Middleton’s own construction added a lively footnote to the traditional methods that infused this whiskey with elements from all over the world.

8. Redbreast Dream Cask Editions
Middleton Distillery
Approximately £8,500
2018

The Middleton Distillery was already innovating and experimenting for a long time before the Silent Collection. This Redbreast Dream Cask was a small-batch release in extremely limited numbers that can often be found at charity auctions and private events almost ten years on.

The style of whiskey itself is a great example of single still pot production where a mash of malted and un-malted barley is brought together in the historic copper pots.

9. Middleton Very Rare 1986
Approximately £7,500
1986

Early vintages from the Middleton Very Rare range are becoming increasingly difficult to source and their prices reflect this. What was undoubtedly a significant bottle 40 years ago is now prized for its scarcity and position in the Middleton heritage that has such a stronghold on the Irish Whiskey market in the 21st century.

10. Middleton Very Rare 1984
Approximately £6,500
1986

The Middleton Very Rare programme started in 1984 under the watchful eye of master distiller Barry Crockett. It represents an annual release of the brand’s premium blend of pot still and grain whiskeys in a celebration of technique and taste.

As the first edition, 1984 holds a very special place in collectors’ hearts. With such a large portion of the release consumed, obtaining a bottle for personal collection is quite the boon for any true Irish whiskey connoisseur.

For consumers and collectors, the world of expensive Irish whiskey is a dynamic, engaging and interesting one. It provides the stories and scarcity required to make it worthy of significant investments of both time and money from all over the planet. All of which is something worth celebrating whether raising a glass or preserving a wonderful past for future generations.
