Hyde Park Winter Wonderland Guide 2026
Few cities embrace the festive season quite like London. As winter arrives, the capital’s streets, parks and historic neighbourhoods take on a distinctly seasonal character, from illuminated shopping streets to traditional markets and festive events. Brimming with festive spirit, the London holiday season is unlike any other. The highlight of London’s Christmas season is the annual Hyde Park Winter Wonderland theme park.
For six weeks, Hyde Park transforms into a joyous winter wonderland, dressed in dazzling adornments and over 150 thrilling rides. Hyde Park Winter Wonderland is a major global attraction, with people from all over the world visiting this extravaganza in hopes of making Christmas memories worth cherishing.

History of Winter Wonderland
The story ultimately begins with one of the first-ever Christmas fairs in the country, which took place in Edinburgh in 1999 and came to be known as “Edinburgh's Christmas”. A few years later, London followed suit, opening Hyde Park Winter Wonderland in 2005. It started as a modest affair on the fringes of Hyde Park, hosting a handful of markets, a few rides, and an ice rink. Unfortunately, the event received a lukewarm response, resulting in The Royal Parks almost abandoning Winter Wonderland altogether.
However, in 2007, The Royal Parks collaborated with the entertainment company AEF Live and event management firm PWR Events, which led to the theme park growing significantly. Increased funding, better administration, and compelling marketing endeavours catapulted the funfair to new heights, and by 2012, multiple roller coasters, inventive enclaves such as ‘Santa Land’ and ‘Bavarian Village,’ and the beloved Ferris wheel became enduring fixtures of Winter Wonderland. The colossal success of Hyde Park Winter Wonderland sparked Christmas attractions in other parts of England, including Birmingham, Nottingham, and York.
Planning Your 2026 Visit
The 19th edition of Winter Wonderland commences on Thursday 19 November and is set to end Sunday 3 January 2027. The funfair takes place from 10. a.m. to 10 p.m. every day, excluding Christmas Day, with tickets available ranging from just £1 to £8.50 per adult based on a tier-entry system.
Hyde Park is laid out across 350 acres and, unsurprisingly, the event is the UK's largest outdoor Christmas market and festival. As such, there are several entrances to the fair. The closest tube stations are Hyde Park Corner, Marble Arch, Knightsbridge, and Lancaster Gate. The most convenient entry point depends on the direction you travel from.
Family-Friendly Activities
Hyde Park Winter Wonderland is packed with family-friendly activities designed specifically for parents with toddlers, young children, and teenagers. The 2026/2027 season features a completely revamped lineup of immersive walk-throughs, dedicated kids’ dining areas, and cost-saving ride passes. At Santaland, a utopian universe known for its sweet treats and charmed rides, young ones can fly on 'Santa’s Sleigh' or engage in playful competition with 'Penguin Bumper Cars.' Children are treated to presents and fun-filled meet-and-greets with Santa’s family at Santa’s Grotto.
There are two brand-new additions to this festive event this season, including the Magical Ice Kingdom in the theme of Neverland, featuring icy renditions of Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, the Lost Boys, and Captain Hook's Jolly Roger ship, and the Grandeys K-Pop Dragon Circus, which fuses high-energy K-Pop music and dance choreography with daring acrobatic stunt work and giant mythical dragons.
Thrilling Rides
While Winter Wonderland features over 150 total attractions, a select group of legendary coasters, extreme thrill rides, and scenic staples consistently stand out as the most popular rides on site. A chief attraction at Winter Wonderland is the open-air ice rink. Decked out in 100,000 Christmas lights, it is the UK’s largest ice rink, making for a hearty yet adventurous activity.
There are several iconic roller coasters, perfect for those seeking an adrenaline rush, such as the Wilde Maus XXL, The Time Machine, Euro Coaster, and Ice Mountain. ‘Munich Looping’ is the world’s largest portable roller coaster, featuring five vertical loops. The Hangover is the world’s tallest gyro-drop tower, standing at a height of 85 meters. Standing at 80 meters, the ‘Aeronaut StarFlyer’ is one of the world’s largest swing rides.
Festive Fair and Drinks
For this season, Winter Wonderland features its largest culinary footprint yet, expanding its food and drink offerings into highly themed zones. The options here range from traditional German comfort food to global street food pop-ups and frozen cocktail lounges. The ultimate festive hub of the park is the Bavarian Village. It captures the vibrant energy of Munich’s Oktoberfest but with a distinctive Christmas twist. The massive Street Food Village features a lineup of London’s top culinary spots, such as Meathead Mexican, Truffle Burger, Only Jerkin, and incredible dessert stalls, including Crumbled London. Snug and Timber Bar and Santa’s Pub are iconic Winter Wonderland pubs known for serving heady cocktails and generous pints. Visitors can indulge in delicious mulled wine at Thor’s Tipi, a Viking-inspired bar.
A London Christmas Tradition
Whether you are looking to experience the thrill of the Munich Looping, explore the new Neverland-themed Magical Ice Kingdom or simply enjoy a mulled wine in the Bavarian Village, Winter Wonderland has become an established part of London’s festive calendar. With its combination of rides, entertainment, food and seasonal traditions, it offers something for visitors of all ages.
For those living close to Hyde Park, Winter Wonderland is also part of the wider appeal of the neighbourhood during the festive season. Its location places residents within easy reach of Knightsbridge, Mayfair and some of central London’s most established residential streets, allowing them to experience the atmosphere of the season without travelling across the city. For many, that proximity is part of what makes a London Christmas particularly memorable.
