Brutalist Beauty Reimagined: A Family's Journey to Centre Point
Discover how UK Sotheby’s International Realty secured a landmark sale in London’s Centre Point
A sprawling London skyline with the sun dipping below the horizon against the silhouette of the Shard, and the last vestiges of daylight reflecting off the Thames are all an integral part of the Centre Point welcome. This legendary Brutalist structure is reborn as a beacon of modern luxury, a calm oasis high above Tottenham Court Road’s chaos.
Centre Point rises proudly at the heart of the West End, a beacon visible for miles that marks London’s geographic, creative, and cultural core. Just steps away, you’ll find the vibrant theatres of the West End, the luxury boutiques of Mayfair, and the culinary delights of Soho and Fitzrovia.
Centre Point forms a unique architectural proposition in the London skyline with homes set within one of the capital's finest examples of brutalist architecture,
What made the Centre Point sales significant wasn’t just the location, the square footage, or even the staggering panoramic views. The sale was symbolic as it marked the acquisition of the final three flats in the building that were bought by a family of three siblings.
The apartments themselves are textbook modern luxury. Open-plan living spaces stretch expansively, framed by floor-to-ceiling windows that make London feel less like a city and more like your very own backdrop. Day or night, the views are cinematic, equally dazzling whether bathed in sunlight or drenched in the neon glow of the West End. Then there are the amenities: an above-ground lap pool (rare, even for London’s most exclusive postcodes), a state-of-the-art gym, and concierge services that feel more bespoke than five-star. However, one amenity rose above the rest: proximity to the Elizabeth Line. With Heathrow a mere 30-minute ride away, the practicality of Crossrail sealed the deal for these three apartments.
Centre Point, for all its modern elegance, sits atop Tottenham Court Road, an address that has yet to fully shake off its functional, slightly gritty past. Yet the buyers recognised the golden opportunity hiding in plain sight, with the appeal of the location within walking distance of London’s most popular neighbourhoods and the attractive price point.
Centre Point borders Covent Garden, Soho, and Fitzrovia and is a prime destination for living and socialising in London. Transport links reach Heathrow within 30 minutes and Canary Wharf in only 12 when the new crossrail station opens.
Alice Chan, the UK Sotheby’s International Realty Sales Director who orchestrated the deal remarked: “Had these flats been anywhere else, the asking price would’ve been astronomical. The buyers understood that. They saw the potential, not the postcode. It was an enjoyable challenge to find each sibling a pied-à-terre that worked in tandem with their needs.”
Each sibling brought a family of their own into the equation, with children ranging from newborns to teenagers. It was a challenge to secure a space that offered privacy for each family unit while making sure they all felt like one big household. The solution came in the form of three separate flats in Centre Point, each tailored to the individual sibling’s tastes.
“It was like a puzzle, but each piece fell rightly in its place, and this was no small feat. A happy outcome, three families now have a London base where they can be close yet independent. It’s a rarity, and it’s exactly what they wanted.” says Alice.
The global reach of the brand – specifically, a referral from Shane Jewell in Dubai – was the critical connection that brought the first buyer into the fold. From there, it was all about the human touch: understanding the clients deeply, offering honest advice, and delivering more than they imagined possible.
As Centre Point bids farewell to its last residents-in-waiting, it proves a sale is not just about square footage or a postcode. Sometimes, it’s about finding a way to fit life’s complexities into a space that feels effortless – and keeping a family together.
