The ballroom at The Berkey is a vision of how well a contemporary space can be accommodated in a 5-star hotel experience. The Bulgari Ballroom
The Bulgari Hotel at 171 Knightsbridge officially opened in 2012 as the new direction for luxury hotels in London to follow. Importantly, the Ballroom here was part of the original design and build and therefore subject to the overall aesthetic of this impressive building. Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel & Partners brought an intimacy to the grand space of the ballroom with hand-crafted silver chandeliers created by Padgham& Putland Silversmiths, drawing the eye as the hero décor piece. The adjacent Ballroom Foyer, with its mirrored bar and domed ceiling combine for a decadent and distinctive environment that West London has come to love.
The Ballroom can comfortably accommodate up to 280 guests for standing reception or around 150 in the seated dinner configuration. Audio and visual capability are easily handled alongside the ambient controls to make for a highly-tailored event, whatever the occasion. As a result, this setting has become favoured for product launches and conferences just as much as the weddings and life event celebrations that one would imagine taking place.

The Anne Machin Ballroom
No. 30 Knightsbridge is a fantastic representation of the 21st century trend of luxury London boutique hotels. The Anne Machin Ballroom here is the proprietary event space named after a former owner of the building, which offers a chance for event planners and families to benefit from a heritage room of exquisite style. This was once a private residence dating back to the late 19th century that was an exclusive hub for parties held by elite figures of the West London arts and business scenes. At the turn of the last century, it was sympathetically refurbished with many of its excellent architectural features preserved while upgrading the facilities and amenities needed for modern events. High ceilings, ornate plasterwork and huge windows that cast light onto parquet floors have created the perfect foundation for a new palette of golds and woodwork for a timelessly sophisticated atmosphere. It also connects directly to the Monet Garden Terrace for a pleasing transition and flow between spaces when events are held here.
With capacities set at 200 guests for standing receptions and 120 seated for dinner, it offers intimacy and charm without any compromise on the mid to large scale. The Anne Machin Ballroom feels much more private and almost secretive for the galas and events that perhaps require a little more discretion for an ultra-elite west London scene.
Although the very idea of a ballroom may seem a product of times gone by, these beautiful examples show just how versatile they can be in 2025. It appears that many of the key events in Knightsbridge’s social calendar will have modern interpretations of these spaces to rely on for a long time into the future.
