Since it began in 1826, the Regatta has become a staple of British sporting and social calendars. This year promises to be more thrilling than ever, with a record 579 crews entered, up by 32 compared to 2023. From July 2 to July 7, the riverbanks will brim with spectators, all eager to witness over 300 races of an international standard, featuring Olympic rowers and fresh-faced crews alike.

A Tradition of Excellence

The regatta’s rich history and the calibre of competition it attracts means it is respected the world over. Teams from across the globe congregate in the town, each hoping to take home one of the coveted trophies. The races, set against the picturesque backdrop of the Thames, involve rowing the one-mile, 550-yard course upstream in various heats.

The atmosphere is electric, whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned Member. The banks of the Thames come alive with the buzz of excited spectators, elegant picnics, and the occasional pop of a champagne cork.

The Social Calendar’s Crown Jewel

Beyond the rowing, Henley Royal Regatta is the gem of the society calendar. It’s a place where tradition meets modernity, where old friends reunite and new acquaintances are made over glasses of Pimm's. The dress code is strict but chic and unstuffy, with gentlemen in blazers and ties and ladies in summer dresses and hats.

This year, the Regatta has partnered with Crew Clothing, who will launch a capsule collection, featuring a curated selection of occasion-wear and elevated wardrobe essentials, perfect for the stylish Regatta-goer.

A Week to Remember

As the Regatta unfolds over six days, each day has a slightly different atmosphere. From the Opening Day's initial races to the grand finals on Sunday, the excitement steadily builds. Visitors can enjoy the most delicious food and guzzle wonderful drinks and cocktails from a huge selection of carefully curated pop-up stalls and exclusive enclosures, making for a perfect day out whether you're there for the rowing or the revelry.

For many, the Regatta is an annual pilgrimage, a chance to soak in the deeply British atmosphere that only Henley can offer. The combination of top-tier sporting achievement, the watery riverside setting, and the fizzing social scene mean it is unmatched when it comes to a waterside event that has something for everyone.

Henley-on-Thames: More Than Just Rowing

While the Regatta is the star attraction, the town is also a must-see while you’re there; its charming streets are lined with independent shops, cafes, and historic buildings. For the history lovers among us, the River & Rowing Museum is a hot spot. Located a short stroll from the town centre, it offers fascinating exhibits on the sport's history and its connection to Henley.

Tickets and Where to Go

The Stewards’ Enclosure offers the best vantage point at the event. While becoming a member takes six to ten years, you can still gain access as a member's guest. Located on the Berkshire Bank, opposite the Finish Line, it provides excellent viewing from the Members’ Grandstand (reserved seating), the Fawley Grandstand (unreserved seating), and the Floater (members only).

The Regatta Enclosure, also on the Berkshire Bank and just downstream from the Stewards’ Enclosure, welcomes competitors, supporters, and the general public. It features riverside seating, an open grandstand, a covered restaurant, an outdoor dining area, and a bar. Admission badges, which must be worn at all times, are valid for the entire day and allow access to the Boat Tent area. Note that large bags are not permitted.

Fawley Meadows offers an exceptional hospitality experience with riverboat cruises, private outdoor areas, live entertainment, and day-long hospitality.
