Mountain Tree House Encrusted in a Red Cedar Tree Forest – Xiuning, Anhui, China

Set amongst a forest of beautiful red cedar trees in Xiuning, Anhui, China, this incredible treehouse takes vivid childhood imagination to new, sophisticated, heights. The unique property was designed by Bengo Studio and inspired by the premise that tree houses should be magical places. This one certainly doesn’t disappoint. Standing at 11 metres, it’s one of the tallest tree houses ever designed, yet its wooden exterior blends beautifully into the tranquil forest setting. A winding wooden spiral staircase in the centre of the tree house connects seven small rooms, each looking out into the incredible surroundings. The expansive glass windows and walls throughout the home are positioned at varying levels and angles to provide different breathtaking views from around the property. The epitome of indoor-outdoor living, the tree house immerses occupants in the forest and mountain setting from a sanctuary of comfort and privacy, as the warmly lit home provides perfect juxtaposition against the dark nights.

Badger Mountain House – Richland, Washington, USA

The stunning Badger Mountain House is set in Richland, Washington, USA, and lies at the foot of the mountain – its namesake. The private residence was built in 2013, commissioned for two families, and in homage to its immaculate landscape. The home, designed by First Lamp Architecture, draws inspiration from Japanese architecture; a combination of simplicity, clean lines, and a blend of exposed concrete walls and natural cedar. The warm wooden feel sweeps throughout the building’s spacious interior, with its minimalist design and high ceilings providing a serene and luxurious backdrop to enjoy the breathtaking views of the mountain and Columbia River. Badger Mountain House sits perpendicular to the slope of the hillside to minimise its footprint on the land while maximising views to the north of the property. Meanwhile, the south of the property opens out to a tranquil outdoor pool and observation area with views of the mountain’s magnificent peak.

Castel Madruzzo – Lasino, Trento, Italy

Proof beyond doubt that mountain homes aren’t limited to quaint cottages and ski chalets, Castle Madruzzo exudes rich history, grandeur, and elegance. Situated in the Garda Prealps mountain range, overlooking Lake Garda and just a few miles west of Trento, its location and stature are equally impressive. A steep road carved out of the rocky hillside leads you up to the castle buildings. At 2,500 square metres and surrounded by a picturesque 12-hectare park, the Castle Madruzzo is made up of two parts: the original 12th century castle and the 16th century Castel Nuovo, which was restored in the 1960s. While the old castle is uninhabitable, a 20 metre tower stands strong among the ruins and offers panoramic views of the outstanding Sarca Valley. The neighbouring Castel Nuovo provides impressive living quarters on a scale befitting of its historic noble residents, with 17 bedrooms, a grand ballroom, and a chapel featuring original frescoes and period paintings.
