Villa Pierina

Villa Pierina represents the pinnacle of success and elegance. Commissioned by Francesco Avanzini, a prosperous emigrant from Curio to Argentina in the early 20th century, this villa embodies the essence of a triumphant return to one's homeland after achieving wealth abroad. Renowned architect Giuseppe Bordonzotti, celebrated for his Art Nouveau style, was entrusted with bringing this vision to life. The project saw a dynamic exchange of ideas between Ticino and the vibrant city of Buenos Aires, balancing the client's aspiration for 'American Long Island Grandeur' with local architectural traditions. Construction commenced in 1909, and by 1910, Villa Pierina was completed, named in honor of Avanzini's daughter. After being acquired by an affluent German family, the villa underwent a meticulous renovation, restoring its grandeur with exquisite materials. This prestigious country estate, classified as a cultural asset, proudly overlooks the village of Curio with its regal charm. In 2012, it was entirely refurbished using the finest materials, showcasing four floors of spacious, luminous rooms. Features such as high ceilings, grand chandeliers, herringbone walnut parquet, inlaid fireplaces, a discreet internal lift, and beautifully restored original frescoes highlight its sophistication. With a sunny southeastern orientation and expansive terraces, it offers breathtaking views of nature, the village, and Lake Lugano. The park includes a large heated swimming pool with a sunbathing area, and access to the villa is via a majestic tree-lined driveway, enhancing the significance of this historic estate.
