Marylebone Area Guide
Marylebone is simultaneously one of London’s prettiest and oldest areas – its evolution spans from royal deer parks and country estates to grand redbrick buildings. Today, its beautiful architecture is coupled with its trendy high street known for its heritage brands, quirky shops, and electric atmosphere.
Famous for housing cultural stalwarts such as Madame Tussaud’s, as well as being the home of fictional detective Sherlock Holmes, the area is also the subject of a seemingly never-ending debate (usually by non natives) on whether it’s pronounced Mary-le-bone or Marhl-le-bone (the correct pronunciation is the former).
Whatever your reason may be for frequenting the neighbourhood, Marylebone offers a calm contrast to the often hectic neighbourhoods it borders and is as lovely as central London districts get.
