Hampstead Area Guide

Lying in the leafy expanse of North London, commonly referred to as Hampstead Village, Hampstead stretches northward to Hampstead Garden Suburbs, sharing borders with St. John’s Wood to the south and neighbouring Highgate to the east. Part of the London Borough of Camden, Hampstead is celebrated for its intellectual, artistic, and literary associations. The village has an extraordinary concentration of wealth, with more millionaires residing here than in any other area in the United Kingdom. Despite this, Hampstead retains a charming village feel, with part of its character preserved in its architecture and community spirit. Hampstead High Street is home to no less than 18 Grade II-listed buildings, reaffirming the area’s dedication to preserving its heritage. While West Hampstead was traditionally a working-class neighbourhood, it has undergone significant gentrification since the 1980s, transforming into a popular residential area for young professionals.
