Belgravia Area Guide

Belgravia is one of London’s finest residential areas, thanks to its distinctive white stucco houses, some of which are located around verdant leafy squares. So loved are these houses today that they adorn postcards and movie montages of the capital, becoming an emblem of the city. Built around Belgrave and Eaton Squares, with the help of his surveyor Thomas Cundy, Cubitt turned the area into a ‘City of Palaces’.

The area is lined with impressive properties, many of which overlook meticulously managed private communal gardens, such as Eaton and Chester Square, giving residents calming green spaces. Belgravia is also home to a wide range of flats for sale, as well as more esteemed penthouses. Unsurprisingly for such a sought-after locale, the area also boasts a strong rental market, ideal for UHNWIs who are in town for just a short time.

Charming streets, like Elizabeth Street and Motcomb Street, are teeming with independent restaurants and boutique shops, which gives a quaint, village-like feel to the prime central London location. This harmonious combination of architectural beauty, village-like charm and green open spaces, as well as being within walking distance to the very heart of London, is what makes Belgravia one of the most sought-after places to live in the capital.
Named after one of the Duke of Westminster's subsidiary titles, Viscount Belgrave, the area was built by master builder Thomas Cubitt (great great great grandfather of Queen Consort Camilla), who had a plan to make it into the new Mayfair. Cubitt wasn’t any ordinary builder, he had previously built Bloomsbury, lots of Highbury Park and some of Stoke Newington, but Bloomsbury has become his lasting legacy.
